History Of The MCHF

To keep pace with the growing technological and service needs of Mountains Community Hospital, the community identified the need for a foundation to ensure a constant source of capital funding. The Mountains Community Hospital Foundation was founded in 1991.

The MCH Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the ongoing expansion and improvement of the Hospital. The Foundation creates diverse tax-deductible giving opportunities, including individual and corporate gifts, planned giving and community fundraising events. Its first president was the hospital’s first ambulance driver, Ross Johnstone.

The Foundation hosted its first Le Grand Picnic in 1994 at the home of Gene and Billie Yeager, long-time supporters of the Hospital. Le Grand Picnic has since grown to be the Foundation’s signature fundraising event and a “can’t-miss” event for many mountain residents each summer.

The Summit Club unveiled by the Foundation in 1998, is a yearly giving club that raises funds to allow the Foundation to effectively plan projects and help the Hospital to purchase needed equipment. The work of the Foundation has enabled Mountains Community Hospital to maintain its status as a modern healthcare facility, able to keep up with medical and diagnostic technology. Gifts to the Foundation have made possible a helipad, a state-of-the-art CT scanner, physical rehabilitation equipment, an ED Ultrasound and a Telemetry Patient Monitoring System.

The Hospital’s first expansion, since its dedication in 1951, was called Project 2000. Announced in March of 1998, the $2.1 million expansion entailed two phases. The first added more than 2,000 square feet to the laboratory and radiology departments. Phase 2 doubled the size of the Emergency Department. The Hospital was able to reach its goal in July, 2000 and opened a new, modern emergency department, an expanded laboratory and a radiology department, that included radiography, CT scanner, mammography and ultrasound capabilities.

Since then the Foundation has helped the Hospital to purchase a CAT –Scanner in 2007, the DX-A Scan, a bone density measurement system in 2010. The ECRC (Long Term Care Unit) was renovated in 2011. In addition, an ED Ultra Sound, Telemetry Monitoring System and Digital Mammography were purchased in 2012.
